Get Verified to Get More Dates

Get Verified to Get More Dates

Legit online dating identity verification is finally here. And it’s free.

With so many fish in the sea, matching with desirable singles on dating apps can be hard. What’s even harder is getting people to reply to your messages and then agree to meet you IRL. Unless you look like Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie, you need to do everything you can to stand out.

Getting verified gives you an advantage

  • Gives other online dating users confidence that you’re legit.
  • Stand out to gain a leg up on the highly competitive dating market.
  • Control your digital identity (look good when you get screened).
  • Get more matches and go on more dates.

I’ll walk you through how to get verified with DateID in just a moment, but first a little more on why it’s important.

So long, deception

DateID has made it so easy for singles to screen each other that you can’t afford to not get verified.

95% of people screen their dates. Next time you get screened, what do you want your love interest to see?

Online dating users are fed up with being deceived. DateID has given them newfound abilities to verify that their matches will be who they expect IRL, and they’re taking advantage. It’s no longer a Wild West of anonymity.

With so many people misrepresenting themselves on dating apps, you never know what you’re going to get. I always screen my dates on DateID, and am definitely more likely to meet up with other verified users.

Get your dating ID. Get more dates.

Now that you’re convinced, here’s how to get your dating ID. This shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes.

Watch this video to see how to get your ID and use it to get more matches, including proof that’s working for me. Later in the article I’ll also tell show how I’m using my dating ID to start conversations and meet more women IRL.

The following video is on a desktop computer but you can use your phone.

See my completed profile live here: dateid.me/remy. To get started, simply use Facebook to create an account. After we’ve verified you, you will be granted a bronze shield.

But don’t stop there: to take fully advantage of the platform, level up to silver and gold. Read on to learn why doing so can help you get more matches, and how to do it.

online dating verification shields

DateID members can level up to Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Level up to Silver

I recommend that you not stop with a bronze shield, as it represents only a baseline level of verification.

Verify your location and phone number and you’ll earn a silver shield. You’ll get a check mark next to your city, which will give other online dating users confidence that you’re not lying about your location (which is a very common problem).

Go for Gold

Leveling up to gold will give your dates 100% confidence you are who you claim to be. It will also show scammers that you’re savvy, and they’ll move on to an easier target.

Here’s how my completed profile looks after getting verified and connecting my social media accounts.

Remy's DateID Profile

My DateID profile after leveling up to Gold. I opted to connect Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram. I also edited the search results for my name!

To get your gold shield, scan your driver license or passport, and take a short selfie video. The video is a “liveness test“: it makes sure you’re a real live human. Because liveness tests are virtually unspoofable they are the gold standard for identity verification online.

For this part of the process, you’ll need to install the mobile app Yoti, which is free for iPhone and Android. Yoti is essentially a digital ID card – and it’s the best one there is.

Share your profile to get more matches and more dates

With so many fish in the sea, matching with desirable singles on dating apps can be hard. What’s even harder is getting people to reply to your messages and then agree to meet you IRL.

The dating market is highly competitive and unless you look like Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie, you need to do everything you can to stand out.

Once you have become a DateID member, I recommend that you share your profile on dating apps, including sending it to people you match with.

If you watched the video I posted earlier, you saw that in doing so I’ve been getting more matches (I’ve been going on more dates, too). Be sure to customize your username and profile URL, just like any other social network.

Here’s how I share my profile.

Sharing my profile captures attention every time.

Leverage your free watermarked photos

This is another great way to stand out on dating apps.

DateID watermarks all photos to protect them from theft. We will automatically import your Facebook profile photos and they instantly become available with a watermark. You can also import Instagram and Twitter photos by connecting your accounts.

Edit your profile photo and you’ll see the option to download your photos.

photo watermark generator

Easily download an unlimited number of watermarked photos.

Download your watermarked photos and add them to your dating apps to show you are legit, along with your DateID profile username or link, and you will increase the number of matches you get.

Why does this work?

With the endless swiping, profiles run together and everyone starts to look the same. The logo watermark evokes curiosity, making people pause and take a closer look.

And if they’re a fellow DateID user, they are far more likely to swipe right when they see you’re verified.

DateID is safe and secure, and protects against catfishing

Catfishing is a HUGE problem in online dating and if you’re not watching out for it, you should be. Odds are you’ve been catfished, whether you knew it was happening or not. I’ve used all the dating apps and have never not been catfished at least once.

How bad is it? Between 2015-2018 romance scams cost consumers over 800 million dollars in the US alone. And an immeasurable amount of heartache.

online dating scammer

Clever scammers target dating app users more than anyone else.

DateID’s online dating identity verification platform uses bank grade security, including requiring documentation such as a passport or drivers license, and an actual liveness test (includes a selfie video), to make sure you’re a real human.

When I suspect someone might be catfishing me I ask them to get verified and if they disappear my suspicions are confirmed. What’s more, since I started sharing my DateID profile on dating apps, I’m not getting catfished nearly as much.

Even if you think you’re too savvy to be catfished, matching with and getting messages from illegitimates is a huge waste of your time.

How do I know this isn’t part of the Hookup ID scam?

Glad you asked! Don’t fall for the Hookup ID scam. DateID is the only legit online dating identity verification platform and we have been widely recognized as the leader in dating security. You can read more about us here:

Get Your Dating ID

To get started, use Facebook to create an account. Then follow the steps outlined above.

FAQs

How does DateID’s verification process work?

We are powered by Yoti, the leader in digital identity verification. Simply download Yoti for free, upload your passport or drivers license, and snap a selfie. Then, connect to your account and you will instantly level up to Gold status.

What’s the best online dating ID?

We are the one and only legitimate online dating ID. Everything else is a scam, including the Hookup and Meetup ID.

Is the Hookup ID real or a scam?

You may also have seen advertisements for so-called hookup IDs. No such legitimate product exists; don’t give these websites your credit card or other personal information. You’ll end up $30 lighter with nothing to show for it, and your info may be sold on the dark web.

Is DateID the best online dating identity verification platform?

Yes! In fact, we are the one-and-only legitimate online dating identity verification platform. Everything else is a scam. We’ve been featured in major online dating and verification/Internet security publications, including Global Dating Insights, Information Security Buzz, Mobile ID World, Biometric Update, and Biometric World.

Do I have to provide a credit card?

No, it’s 100% free and there’s no credit card required. If you decide to screen other people there is a $.99 out-of-network fee for people who are not members. Once you have yours, other members can view it for free.

Great, I’ve got my dating ID. What now?

When anyone searches for you, you will come up as a Gold member, rather than an unverified non-member. This will already give you an advantage because people know you’re real. Better still is to pick your username in profile URL, and share it on dating apps. You can also watermark your photos and upload them to dating apps so that other users know you are legit. People who have done this are reporting getting more matches.

Hookup ID: The Online Dating Scam Men Just Can’t Resist

Hookup ID: The Online Dating Scam Men Just Can’t Resist

Hookup ID: The Online Dating Scam Men Just Can’t Resist

What Men Really Want

Let’s face it: most men cannot resist the prospect of hooking up with an attractive woman, especially single men on tinder and other dating apps. It’s in the male DNA. And that’s why the hookup ID, the most widespread online dating security ID scam, has become so successful: clever scammers are successfully exploiting the irresistible appeal of casual sex to men.

How irresistible? Thousands of men across the Internet are opening up their wallets and paying $30 or more for fake “hookup IDs”. With 60 million online dating users in the US alone, my best guess is the scammers are raking in seven figures.

In this post I divulge how this scam works, and what happened when I posed as a victim and bought a hookup ID. I documented the entire process with screenshots and will walk you through all of it. But first, a little more background on this scam.

tinder chat with bot

Here’s a typical example of how the scam begins on Tinder.

Fake hookup ID profile

She’s hot! No surprise men are falling for this one.

How the Hookup ID Scam Works

If you’re a man using online dating apps there’s a very good chance you have been exposed to the scam. Maybe you even fell for it.

I learned about this scam after encountering it myself, and decided to research it further. Eventually, I went ahead and put my credit card down and bought a hookup ID just to see what would happen (more on that later). The scam typically goes something like this:

  • You match with a really attractive woman on tinder, or some other app.
  • “She” chats with you, tells you she finds you attractive.
  • She tells you she wants to meet you and is down for a hookup, in order to feel safe she needs you to get verified and see your hookup ID.
  • She has also sent you a link to her own hookup ID profile (she wants you to do the same).
  • Because she really is extremely hot, you are willing to do just about anything. You ignore the voice in the back of your head telling you something here is not right.
  • Next thing you know you’ve clicked on the link she sent you and plunked down your credit card, only to never hear back from her again.
  • Bonus: You kick yourself because suddenly it is so obvious.

The Oldest and Most Widespread Romance Scam

The hookup ID romance scam has been around since 2016 and is still going strong today. How do I know it’s still going strong today? They are running expensive Google Pay-per-Click ads. Just run a search for “hookup ID” and you will see these ads everywhere. They look surprisingly legitimate.

Ads like these typically cost one dollar more every time you click on them and at scale that really adds up. If the scammers are spending thousands of dollars on these ads it means people are following through and actually putting their credit cards down. Otherwise the scammers would be losing money.

Sophisticated Scammers Based in Russia or China

online dating Scammer

The hookup ID scammers are quite advanced. Using bots enables them to run the scam at scale and they have penetrated dozens of dating apps. These dating apps are legitimate companies that absolutely do have security measures in place, but they continue to be defeated. After all these years they somehow have still not been caught and shut down. My best guess is they’re operating out of Russia, but it could also be China.

Brilliant (and Devastating) Marketing

These scammers are not just tech savvy engineering geeks writing code while holed up in a dark room. They’re really good at marketing, too. In addition to being all over the dating apps with bots, they’ve launched dozens of fake websites that are posing as legitimate sites specializing in online dating security, and promoting the hookup ID.

If you run a search for “hookup ID“ or “online dating security ID“ or “meetup ID” or “dating security ID” you will one way or another find your way back to the same scam.

These fake sites all endorse the hookup ID, including linking directly to the many websites that take your credit card. Even taking it a step further, they acknowledge that there are hookup ID scams and direct you to the only one that is “legitimate”.

So I Bought a Hookup ID

So what happens if you actually buy a hookup ID? Like I said, I went ahead and put down a credit card (well, a cash card, actually) as part of my research for this article. In exchange, I was supposed to get what appeared to be an actual ID card with my photo and a unique identification number added to it. It was even supposed to have a bar code!

I was hoping t my hookup ID would look like one of these beauties (apparently some scammers have better photoshop skills than others).

I landed on the below site after visiting the Dating Security Advisor website, a fake site owned by the scammers.  With the prospect of hooking up with likes of that sultry model, who *wouldn’t* enter their email address? I went ahead a did so, but disappointingly nothing happened. They may just be using this site to collect email addresses. So I tried a different route: I went to the Hookup VIP website (another fake).

Above  is the Hookup VIP website. I went ahead and followed the instructions despite the broken English, and plunked down $30 for a lifetime membership.

$30 Down the Drain

Hookup ID receipt

Here’s the receipt. A company named Amethyst Online Marketing Sales collected my money. Did I get my ID delivered within the next 48 hours as promised? Unfortunately no, it never came at all. I lost $30 so you don’t have to.

If It Seems Too Good to Be True, It Probably Is

Look, it’s extremely rare for any woman to want a hookup, let alone an unusually attractive one. Most have men throwing themselves at them which means they get the pick of the litter and don’t have to settle for a hookup.

Next time you match with someone who seems out of your league, think twice before clicking on any links she sends you and never, ever put down your credit card!

Easy to Fall for the Hookup ID Scam

When you’re lonely and single it’s easy to fall for the hookup ID scam, and that’s why these criminals have had so much success.

If you’re tempted to laugh at people who fall for this scam, think again. These scammers are extremely clever and exploit mens’ worst instincts, and it could probably happen to you, too.

So, rather than judge, try to empathize with these victims. Spread the word so that fewer online dating users fall for it!

Get your dating ID. Get more dates.

FAQs

How long has the hookup ID been around?

The first hookup ID was reported all the way back in 2016, but it’s possible it has been around even longer. It’s amazing that people are still falling for this scam in 2019!

How many different versions of the scam are there?

This is unknown, but there are definitely dozens of versions, spanning multiple fake dating websites. I found four different websites ready to take my credit card. Most likely the hookup ID scam was first run successfully by one group of hackers and then it attracted many copycats. Known variations on the same scam are the dating security ID, meetup ID, swipe hookup, safety hookup clearance, secure hookup ID, online hookup ID and just hookup.

Can I order a physical hookup ID card?

You can, but it definitely won’t ever arrive at your doorstep. The scam promises to send you an actual ID card with a barcode if you pay up. Presumably you could meet someone who would want to scan your card before hooking up with you. When you think this through it could not be more ridiculous, but men fall for it nonetheless! We at DateID have had more than one man call in and ask us to sell them a physical ID card.

Is the Dating Security Advisor website legit?

No, www.datingsecurityadvisor.com is a fake website owned by the scammers. They own dozens of web properties and even have videos. Additional examples include www.hookupvipid.com and www.hookupidpro.com. Anything you find on the Internet promoting them, including videos and Google ads, is illegitimate.

Are the Meetup ID, Dating Security ID, Hookup Safety ID and Dating Verification ID the same scam?

Yes, presumably in order to keep people from catching on, the scam goes by many names including the Meetup ID and Dating Security ID.

What is the difference between DateID and the scam IDs?

DateID is the one and only legitimate website for verifying that your online date is representing themselves accurately. Everything else is a scam. Our identity verification software uses bank grade security to make sure everything and everyone is legit. We don’t send you a physical card – you get an online profile instead.

What is a hookup clearance?

Hookup clearance is just one more version of the same scam.

470 Men and Women Weigh in on Online Dating’s Pain Points

470 Men and Women Weigh in on Online Dating’s Pain Points

470 Men and Women Weigh in on Online Dating’s Pain Points

It’s no secret that online dating is painful

Sometimes you need to have a pity party to make you feel better, and so today I’m going to shamelessly indulge in a rather dark discussion of the biggest online dating pain points for men and women.

Between my years of online dating experience and the survey of 470 men and woman I conducted, “Online Dating: What Sucks Most”, I’ve become an expert on this uplifting topic. My hope is that a collective understanding of how online dating is broken will help us get out of this mess.

Let’s dive in to just how bad things have gotten.

More hated than Comcast and PG&E

Online dating has a Net Promotor Score (NPS) of -35. For the uninitiated, NPS is a system that businesses use to measure customer satisfaction, and the likelihood that someone would refer a product or service to a friend. Needless to say, -35 is abysmal. Given that no one is exactly raving about online dating, this comes as little surprise.

How does an NPS score of -35 measure up to other brands? Comcast, which is known for jacking up prices since they have a monopoly, had an NPS of -2 in 2019. PG&E, the utilities provider that caused massive forest fires in California, got a -4.

Yes, people would be more likely to recommend these much-reviled companies to a friend than they would online dating!

Online dating pain points for women and men

Whereas men gave online dating and NPS score of -30, it was -40 for women. And the pain points were different for women than for men. Here are the seven biggest online dating pain points for each gender (Note: this is for heterosexual users only. Our LGBTQ sample was not large enough for the findings to be statistically significant).

Better looking in dating app photos than IRL

Who knew but people are not being honest in their photos.

This was at the top of the list for both men and women, although the specifics differ. On average, nearly 8 out of 10 women take issue with the photos men poster dating apps. Allegedly, they post photos that make themselves look taller and trimmer, and may obscure their hair (or lack there of!).

Men, on the other hand, are even more likely to say that women post photos that make them look thinner and younger, and are all too skilled at taking flattering selfies.

Online dating users lie about personal details

Another shocker. Nearly 7 out of 10 women allege that men lie about their height, age, marital status, children and income. However, even more men are concerned about the same thing, so it’s difficult to tell which gender is more guilty of deceit.

Wasted time on bad dates

Anyone who has tried online dating knows how easy it is to end up on a bad date. With only 1 out of 3 first dates resulting in a second date for women, and just 1 out of 4 for men, it’s no wonder so many users feel that they are wasting time and online dating sucks.

Deceptive intentions

On average, 8 out of 10 women using dating apps do not trust their male counterparts. Men may say they are looking for a relationship, but do they really want to hook up? Interestingly, men are not nearly as concerned, with More than half of them believing that women are being honest about what they are seeking.

Catfishing and spam

Men and women are both likely to be catfished, but women are less subject to bots, and scams such as the hookup ID. Why is it that scammers target men more often? Probably because men will do almost anything for sex.

Uncertain physical safety

When it comes to online dating, the sad truth is that no one is safe. Sex offenders and other violent criminals are known to target online dating users, men and women alike. Women seem to be aware of this, as 7 out of 10 indicated that they were significantly concerned. Disconcertingly, only 3 out of 10 men are concerned about their physical safety and security being at risk.

Ghosting

No one likes being ghosted, but it seems that women resent it more. 6 out of 10 complained that ghosting is a problem, whereas less than 5 out of 10 men were concerned. Ghosting may be the new normal, but that does not mean it’s OK!

The pain of online dating is real, but you are not powerless

The good news is that there are things you can do to lessen the main pain points of online dating. Start by reading our post on how to make online dating work

50% of people do not trust the details on dating profiles are true
Yoti and DateID are working together to create a safer community of online daters

San Francisco, CA, September 2019 – Yoti, the digital identity app with 5 million downloads, has partnered with DateID, a new US based dating verification platform – to help create a safer and more transparent community of online daters. DateID gives individuals a quick and simple way to verify that the people they meet on dating sites are representing themselves accurately, bringing more trust and transparency online. DateID users can use Yoti to verify their identity, giving other daters reassurance and peace of mind they are genuine.

While online dating has grown over recent years, many people have fallen victim to dating fraud and romance scams which cost time, money and emotional distress. Daters are required to trust the people they meet online are who they claim to be, yet setting up fake profiles on the internet and pretending to be someone else is easy and unregulated. This results in risks of identity theft, financial fraud and catfishing – not to mention disappointing first dates.

50% of people do not trust the details on dating profiles are true, and the number of people affected by online dating scams has reached a record high, with Action Fraud receiving over 350 reports a month in the UK. In the US, over 1,300 cases are reported monthly to the FBI. The true figures are likely to be higher as many people are too afraid or embarrassed to come forward to report the crime. Yoti is working with daters and dating sites to tackle these issues and make online encounters safer.

DateID offers individuals a number of ways to verify that they’re representing themselves accurately on dating sites, including linking their social media profiles and verifying their identity with Yoti; which gives them Gold status, the highest level of verification. Users who’ve completed all DateID verifications will give other daters confidence that the person they’re meeting is real and genuine, and the details on their dating profile are true. This creates a safer community of daters, and reduces the risks of identity fraud and catfishing – and bad dates. Together, DateID and Yoti bring security, transparency and accountability to dating.

Remy Tennant, Founder and CEO DateID, explained “Online dating is a minefield. Users have no real incentive to be truthful in their profiles, and the result is a lot of bad first dates–not to mention serious dangers like being catfished. In our survey of more than 450 online daters, we found that 95% of users Googled each other before agreeing to meet. The problem is, even the best online sleuthing can’t catch everything. DateID gives online daters a fast, easy and effective way to screen each other before agreeing to meet. We’re delighted that Yoti enables us to provide our users with the industry standard in ID verification.”

Stephanie Hudson, DateID and Yoti user, said “With so many people misrepresenting themselves on dating apps, you never know what you’re going to get. I always screen my dates, and DateID gives me way more helpful information than I can find on my own, while saving me a ton of time. I appreciate it when other users connect Yoti to DateID because it gives me 100% confidence that people are who they say they are.”

Stephanie Hudson is a 35 year old User Experience Designer in mobile San Francisco, CA. See her at https://www.dateid.me/steph or https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephaniehudsonsf/.

Robin Tombs, CEO Yoti explained, “It’s too easy to be tricked by somebody hiding behind a fake profile. Yoti offers a free, simple and secure way to know exactly who you’re meeting online – helping to prevent false profiles and make digital interactions safer. We’re delighted to be working with DateID to give daters greater peace of mind, trust and transparency about who they’re talking to. Verified digital identities are a surefire way to help combat catfishing and fake profiles, making it harder for fraudsters and safer for honest people looking for love.”

The free Yoti app is available for Android and Apple phone, and transforms ID documents and biometrics into a digital identity. Yoti uses 256-bit encryption to secure user details and puts individuals in control of their data. With Yoti, the user has to give consent before their details are shared. They also know exactly what details they are sharing and who they are sharing them with.
For more information go to www.yoti.com or visit the app store on iOS and Android phones.
